The issue of the demarcation of the border between Kosovo and Montenegro is a matter of weeks. After a long work of the commissions from Montenegro and Kosovo, the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic, stated during the meeting with Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, that demarcation of the border will happen very soon.

Kosovo’s Commission for the Demarcation of the Border Line also confirmed that it will hand over its report on the border line with Montenegro to the government of Kosovo, soon.

However, Ali Lajci, who is an observer and adviser to the Kosovo Commission for the Borderline with Montenegro, said to Tribuna that dwellers of that part will be protesting very soon. According to him the border line marked by cadastre and geodesy is unacceptable for the dwellers of this zone, being that it penetrates five to eight kilometers in Kosovo territory, taking in this manner the best uplands and settlements.

He mentioned the zone around the Kulla border crossing and the part of Cakor in Rugova, as the most problematic ones. According to him, Kosovo’s entire western border line is questionable. Lajci criticized Kosovo’s Commission headed by Murat Meha, saying that this delegation accepted every proposal made by the Montenegrins.

“Therefore, parliamentary commissions and all other mechanisms should be careful because this could cause problems and a conflict,” said Lajci, who warned the Kosovo Assembly not to ratify this agreement.

According to Murat Meha, the Commission assessed the opinions of the people there and analyzed the entire documentation. He said that concerns have to be based on documentation. “Kosovo does not lose. Kosovo has its own territory defined clearly on state maps and not on the maps of those who work according to their will,” said Meha. He added that demarcation of the border is requested by the European Union as one of the conditions for visa liberalization.
