Kosovo has marked the International Roma Day on Wednesday, 8 April, by various activities. Institutional leaders met with representatives of the Roma community, whereas the latter pledged for equal treatment. The Roma community, to mark its day, chose a unique form to protest, with music, while demanding better treatment. A meeting between institutional leaders, representatives of the international community and representatives of Roma community was also held at the government of Kosovo in order to mark the Roma Day.

“The Kosovo Roma, along with the Ashkali and Egyptian communities, remain on the margins of the society,” Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Jean-Claude Schlumberger underlined. High level of non-education and lack of unemployment for Roma community members are estimated as high as 90%.
