Domestic violence increased in Peja/Pec region (Koha Ditore)

Domestic violence, which in 99% of cases victims have been women, has seen a significant increase compared to previous years. This is confirmed by data from the Kosovo Police for Peja/Pec region, including Gjakova/Djakovica.

The spokesperson of the Kosovo Police for the region of Peja/Pec, Xhevat Ibra, said that compared to 2013, where 211 cases were reported for the entire region of Peja/Pec, in 2014 there were 232 reported cases. According to him, there are several factors that influence the phenomenon of domestic violence, but the most important are: the economic situation, alcohol etc. “99% of victims are women,” Ibra said, while showing the data for the past four years.
