The President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić said today that it is not good that Pristina is encouraged by anyone to think that independence is the final goal of the ongoing dialogue in Brussels.

During his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics Nikolić also said that Serbia is absolutely dedicated to its EU path and that Brussels should open first chapters in pre-accession negotiations with Serbia. He went on to say that such motion on the side of EU would encourage citizens of Serbia, show them that EU wants Serbia in its ranks and approximate the goals that domestic authorities are aspiring to – normal, modern state and better life for all citizens, reads the statement from the president’s cabinet.

“When it comes to Kosovo and Metohija, Belgrade entered in the dialogue with Pristina because we are exceptionally interested in reducing tensions and creation of more favorable life conditions for all citizens who live in Kosovo and Metohija,” said Nikolić. He however stressed that Serbia will never recognize independence of Kosovo and that “it is not good that anyone encourages administration in Pristina that this is the goal of the ongoing dialogue”.

Rinkevics praised the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and active role of Serbia in overcoming problems with regard to Kosovo.
