Director of the Office of the Government of Serbia for Kosovo, Marko Djuric was in Mitrovica yesterday despite opposition from Pristina, and held a press conference at the bridge over the Ibar River which separates the northern from the southern part of Mitrovica.

Djuric said that Serbia knows what she wants in Kosovo – stability, survival of the Serbian people, more harmony and unity.

The director said that the policy towards Kosovo was based on the principles set out in speeches by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic expressed in the election of the government. The first principle is that Serbia “will never recognize unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo,” and that will take care of the Government institutions and the people of Kosovo.

“For the past year there was not a temporary authority or a local self-government of 29, how many are in our system, which we did not visited and in which at least something started to work,” said the director.

Speaking of plans, Djuric said that activities will be enhanced.

“The contract signed with Imlek will allow speeding up of animal husbandry in the entire territory of Kosovo and Metohija,” said Djuric and announced on 9 May meeting of the Chambers of Commerce of Serbia and Kosovo in Gracanica.

A few days later in Belgrade, as he said, would be “a great set of Government and leading businessmen in Serbia, which would be offered far more favourable conditions from the government for doing business in Kosovo.”

Djuric particularly praised better work of Brezovica resort, but stressed that he has noticed many deficiencies in the functioning of Serbian institutions in Kosovo, and especially pointed out that a lot of improvement was needed in health and education.
