Regional conference on road traffic safety held

With the aim of contributing to exchange of experience for preventing road traffic accidents, the OSCE, supported by Kosovo Police, organized the meeting of regional countries (Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Greece) and the European Union in Prishtinë/Pristina on Wednesday.

Participants spoke about the commitment to create better and safer infrastructure for road traffic.

Amendment of the Criminal Code in Albania is the key to success for decreasing figures of road traffic accidents was said in the conference.

Participants of this conference concluded that many people are getting injured and they are ending up with fatalities; therefore, they said that everyone should contribute to prevention of road traffic accidents.

Regional conference on road traffic safety is one of activities of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.

In the meantime, RTK2 reported that representatives of ministry of education, University and civil society were among the conference participants. The OSCE Mission in Kosovo contributes to road traffic safety by organizing conferences and funding promotional videos and campaigns with the aim of raising the awareness of drivers and pedestrians.

Working groups for monitoring implementation of five laws established

Working groups that will monitor implementation of five laws; Law on Velika Hoca/Hoçë e Madhe, Law on Prizren Historic Centre, Law on promotion and protection of communities, Law on civil service and the Law on local self-government have been established in Wednesday’s meeting of the Assembly committee on rights and interests of communities and returns, the Assembly of Kosovo press office reported.

The working group for monitoring implementation of the sixth Law, the one on local finances, will be established in the meantime.

Srpska List caucus leader Sasa Milosavljevic chaired the meeting, while representatives of the OSCE and of the Kosovo President’s Consultative Council for Communities also took part in it.

UNDP: Citizens’ trust in Kosovo institutions has fallen drastically

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo considers that over last six months citizens have lost their trust in institutions. This has also influenced on the high level of migration.

According to the data of latest UNDP research, over 50% of Kosovo citizens have a friend or family member that has fled Kosovo. The reasons behind migration were mainly related to economic conditions, and loss of hope for improvement.

Only 24 per cent of citizens are satisfied with the work of the Prime Minister, 34 per cent with the work of the President, and 20 per cent are satisfied with the Kosovo Assembly Speaker.

Citizens continue to believe that public health institutions are most corrupt, while the judiciary leads with mistrust.

FOL Movement criticizes Mustafa Government

Local organizations are criticizing country’s government for not doing its job. FOL Movement said that Isa Mustafa’s Government has implemented only 15 out of 34 planned actions in its first quarter.

Launching the online platform “Isa-Meter”, FOL representatives said that the aim of this platform is to monitor Government’s annual work plan, political party programmes of the governing coalition PDK-LDK, as well as monitoring of statements and electoral promises of political leaders.

According to FOL Movement, 10 institutions were obliged to implement 34 actions between January and March 2015, while 19 of them have remained unimplemented.

 

PM Mustafa promised support to Chief State Prosecutor

Prime Minister Isa Mustafa promised support to Chief State Prosecutor Aleksandër Lumezi. Government will create working conditions for the Chief State Prosecutor without political infiltrations, PM Mustafa said.

Prosecutor Lumezi, on the other hand, said that he was happy to be promised that his work will not be impeded.

Freedom House ranks Kosovo among partly free countries

The Freedom House 2015 annual report on the freedom of the media ranks Kosovo among partly free countries and this year it takes the 100th place in the list, compared to the 98th position it had last year.

Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AKJ) expressed its concern about deterioration of freedom of media. This Association calls on Kosovo institutions to have freedom of the press as their priority and take measures for creation of a safe environment for journalists.

Serb official of Klinë/Klina municipality attacked

Attacks on Serb returnees in Klinë/Klina have continued. Ranko Kostic, official of the Office for integration of communities in the Municipality of Klinë/Klina, said that an unknown Albanian slapped him in the face in Drenovc village.

According to Kostic, the representative of Drenovc village approached him and asked him to forgive the attacker saying that he was mentally ill. Kostic said that police commander and deputy mayor also asked him to forgive the attacker while they also mentioned the attacker’s illness.

Kostic said that the attacker was released after he gave a statement to police excusing him for the attack.

Nonetheless, Kostic added that as a municipal official he can assess that situation in Klinë/Klina is not good at all.
