The Swiss Caritas has signed a cooperation agreement with Caritas Kosovo, to support the integration strategy of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in Kosovo. The support is based on the beginning of a new phase of the project for the period 2015 – 2017.  “With this agreement we are entering a new phase of the project, which is the continuation of the commitment of Caritas Kosovo towards social inclusion of RAE communities, not only in Prizren, but including our commitment in Gjakova and Mitrovica. Caritas Kosovo remains committed to support the development of RAE communities and social aspect, education and culture being their advocate in the Kosovo institutions,” said Don Viktor Sopi, director general of Caritas Kosovo.  According to Dato Basha, head of mission of the Swiss Caritas, this project is in line with Kosovo’s National Strategy for the integration of RAE.  “Today’s ratification confirms the support for our partner in Kosovo. Caritas Kosovo will coordinate the activities of civil society organizations of these communities in advocacy and lobbying; moreover, it will strengthen the cooperation with local authorities and elected officials,” Basha informed.  The main donors to the project “Integration of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians in Prizren” are the Principality of Liechtenstein, SDC, and Caritas Switzerland.
