Association of Displaced Djakovica citizens strongly protest against the statements made during the unveiling of the monument in Djakovica/Gjakove on the Day of the Disappeared.

The Commemoration of the Day of missing persons in Gjakove/Djakovica was attended by Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, Assembly President Kadri Veseli, and the Mayor Mimoza Kusari.

Then, according to displaced Gjakove/Djakovica citizens the monument was unveiled only for the “victims of the Albanian people”.

“The victims of the war in 1999 were Serbs, Albanians, Gorani, Bosniaks, and Roma. We believe that the monument should be dedicated to all the victims of the war in 1999, as a warning to all future generations,” the statement said.

The statement adds that the victims of war must not be divided.

“Did gentlemen wanted to divide the victims, which is unacceptable and unfair towards the victims of war and to their families, or they wanted to send a message that they represent only a part of the citizens of Djakovica and Kosovo and Metohija. With its act, they send a clear message that they do divide citizens and that they are able to divide the victims on a national basis,” said the statement of the displaced Djakovica citizens.

Association expresses lack of understanding on inaction, of the international community but also the Serbian representatives in the Kosovo government, to the statements made by their colleagues.
