(All monitored broadcasters, RTK1)

With 347 votes pro and two against, Isa Mustafa has been re-elected Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Following his election, Mustafa said that LDK will be unified and better organized. Mustafa assessed LDK’s electoral Congress as very successful.

Isa Mustafa, who was the only candidate for LDK chairman was elected by acclamation and will hold the position of LDK Chairman until 2019. The delegates also elected LDK General Council which consists of 99 members, including the chairman.

Mustafa said that it was a successful congress, and that there was room for discussion and internal proposals. Mustafa emphasized that everything went accordingly to LDK internal regulation and statute.

As for the critics of his rivals within the party, Mustafa said that he does not deal with them.

All TV stations reported that LDK Congress was followed by tensions and reactions. In the beginning of the session LDK chairperson candidate Vjosa Osmani withdrew from the race and left the congress, with the justification that she wasn’t allowed to run for the head of LDK.

Also the former LDK Chairperson Fatmir Sejdiu gave up from the candidacy. Both, Sejdiu and Osmani considered LDK Congress as undemocratic and as a bad sample for LDK.

Moreover, Osmani said that the Sunday’s electoral Congress is illegitimate and that she will not recognize Isa Mustafa as LDK Chairperson.

After his election, PDK leader Hashim Thaçi and the leader of Democratic Party (PD) from Albania Lulzim Basha congratulated Mustafa.

(Most monitored broadcasters, TV21)

Several representatives of media outlets and civil society sent a letter of protest to LDK for obstructing the journalists to report from LDK Congress.

‘Unfortunately, LDK leadership, by excluding the journalists from the hall where the Congress was being held, arbitrary prohibited the audience from receiving the just information. This is an unacceptable act and violates harshly the freedom of the media in Kosovo’, reads the protest note.

On the other hand, following his election, Mustafa in his personal Facebook account accused the media for pressuring the delegates. In his Facebook post, Mustafa apologized to the delegates for the harsh media pressure that they have been under during the last ten days.

‘You received orders and letters from journalists, editors and civil society representatives, who to support and whom to vote. You received these letters from those that today on the behalf of media freedom are complaining that LDK was not transparent’, wrote Mustafa in his Facebook account.

Law on weapons to be amended

(RTK1)

It is believed that over 300,000 illegal weapons are in the hands of Kosovo citizens. This figure has been published years ago in an UNDP report. For this matter, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has already started to make legal regulations related to the illegal possession of weapons including amnesty.

Head of the Department for Weapons, Ammunition and Explosive in MIA, Destan Mustafa said that MIA has started a legal initiative to help legalizing illegal weapons through voluntary handover of the weapons and the option for amnesty too.

Meanwhile, with the aim to control and harmonize the laws based on EU regulations, related to the use of fire weapons and ammunition in Kosovo, MIA has started drafting legal amendments to the law on weapons and ammunition, RTK1 reported.

These laws have been in principle adopted by the Assembly of Kosovo. Main objective of these laws is preventing the illegal trafficking and production of weapons.

According to MIA officials the amendments will regulate the conditions for purchase of weapons, possession, and registration of the weapons and ammunition which is intended for civil use.
