The U.S. will encourage the EU to open chapters in Serbia’s accession talks, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said.
He on Thursday in Washington received Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.
Blinken and Vucic conferred on the U.S. support to Serbia’s EU pathway, the situation in the region, the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and Serbia’s foreign policy activities.
The Serbian prime minister underlined that the U.S. support to Serbia’s EU integration is necessary, adding that much has been done on the preservation of peace and stability in the region, reads a statement issued by the Serbian government’s press office.
Vucic informed Blinken about the economic reforms carried out by the government, and invited him to visit Serbia.
Blinken said that everything that has been done by the Serbian government has led to Serbia’s closer cooperation with both the U.S. and the EU.
The U.S. official also commended the economic reforms implemented in Serbia and underscored that a greater presence of U.S. investors in the country is needed.
