“Pristina threatens with the lawsuit for genocide in order to divert attention from the establishment of the Special Court for terrorist KLA,” says the director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric. “One of the most bizarre ideas is that our southern province could sue our central authority for the crime of genocide. The people who promote that idea are unpunished actors of the war and are also part of the public life in Kosovo,” said Djuric.

As he explained, “due to a guilt, or fear, they are trying to draw attention from the establishment of the Special Court”.

In an interview for Vecernje Novosti, Djuric pointed out that Serbia has high hopes that the Court will contribute to the healing of society in Kosovo from the happenings in the last two decades.

When asked whether he believes the president’s platform on Kosovo can contribute to the solution of the Kosovo issue, Djuric said that many people commented platform, though they haven’t even see it. He said that it is excellent that Kosovo is discussed at the highest state level. “The policy towards Kosovo must be the result of wide public debate and the widest possible political and social consensus,” said Djuric.

Djuric said that in the course of European integrations, Serbia was never set a condition to recognize Kosovo before joining the EU, hoping that no one will ask, because it is clear what would be the response of Belgrade. “We do not need any additional argument not to acknowledge attempted secession of our southern province, even if the whole world recognizes the so-called Republic of Kosovo. And as we know, Pristina is very far from having that kind of support,” concluded Djuric.
