Janjic: Neither Belgrade nor Pristina must risk the interruption of the talks (Blic, B92)

None of the parties can risk, jump out of the dialogue, and interrupt talks in Brussels, believes political analyst Dusan Janjic of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, stating that both sides will have to accept compromises and ‘swallow’ the specific formulations.

Janjic told B92, before a new round of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, scheduled for 23 June, that some decisions have to be made, which were delayed from 2013, especially in telecommunications.

” Of course, in political terms, the most important is the question of Community of Serbian municipalities, and it is especially difficult for Kosovo. They must bring the decision here, ” said Janjic.

Stating that he believes that an agreement is close, he pointed out that Serbia has met its conditions and presented the statue of municipalities and that now remains an action plan and the dynamics by which it will be realized.

Asked how realistic is in this round to reach agreement on the Community of Serbian municipalities, he said that any of these parties will not take risks, in this case Kosovo, to end the talks and turn away from dialogue.

According to him, the Association of Municipalities is a measure, and all other things, are political-technical and close to the solutions.

”I think that neither side will put at risk, to be more precise, and forecast, I think maybe on 23 and 24 June, because it will last long and there will be sandwiches and water and lying on the floor perhaps, that on one of these days will be completed all what is called a pre-condition for the opening of Chapter 35 ”, says Janjic.

”I think we should focus on June 23 as this is the most important. Once this is resolved, would be easier to talk with Angela Merkel, there would be less talk on whether or not to go to Srebrenica. At the moment, the key to stability in the region is the relationship between Pristina and Belgrade,” said Janjic.
