Due to difficult living conditions Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija are lately selling their properties more frequently.

One of the reasons for selling their land, according to inhabitants of Novo Brdo/Novobërdë, is that there are no jobs. There are no more youngsters, they are leaving their houses in search for better life. “They are not leaving abroad, they go to Serbia proper,” says one of locals, and adds that poor living conditions is the reason for selling properties and leaving.

Authorities in Novo Brdo/Novobërdë are appealing on local Serbs not to sell their land, whereas the Mayor of Novo Brdo/Novobëerdë Svetislav Ivanović says that local Serbs are selling their land because they are jobless.

Novo Brdo/Novobërdë is one of the poorest municipalities in Kosovo. NGO “Majka Devet Jugovica’ and Eparchy of Raska and Prizren have jointly launched the work of soup kitchens but this can’t stop people from selling their property and leaving Kosovo.
