The deputies of the French National Front led by Marine Le Pen, through its newly formed parliamentary group in the European Parliament, submitted a draft resolution on the suspension of negotiations on Serbia’s membership in the EU, learned Danas in Brussels. They pointed out that reason for this resolution is their worry that Serbia “will face the same destiny as France.” The signatories of this document are MPs Steeve Briois, Dominique Bilde, Sophie Montel, Mireille D’Ornano, Aymeric Chauprade.
According to the text, the progress in the negotiating chapters is late “because of the profound disagreements between the EU and Serbia on Kosovo status, harmonization of the provisions concerning human rights, as well as diplomatic and geopolitical relations with Russia “… At the same time, it was noted that Serbia’s entry into EU “will damage relations between countries that were once part of Yugoslavia and Russia”, calling for “immediate termination of negotiations.” President of the EP Martin Schulz is asked to forward the document to the European Commission, the European Council and the Member States.
