Nuland: Kosovo should establish Special Court

The U.S Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland, told to Kosovo institutional leaders that the Special Court must be established in order for Kosovo to mark progress.

In separate meetings, Nuland received assurances for the establishment of the Specialized Chambers, by Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga, Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Deputy Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi. These meetings took place without the presence of the media.

Nuland said that Kosovo and its leadership should demonstrate understanding and close this chapter in order to move forward.

Meanwhile, following the meeting with Nuland, Kosovo President Atifete Jahajga, stated that Kosovo institutions and its citizens are committed to fulfill the international obligations.

Jahjaga said that she expects from the institutions to quickly establish the Special Court, in order to address all the raised charges from the report of the Council of Europe and also to avoid the establishment of this Court by the UN Security Council, reads a press statement issued by the Office of the President.

Nuland also meet with Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and his Deputy, Hashim Thaçi.

She commended the Government of Kosovo for its positive and resultative role in combating terrorism and its ideologies.

On the other hand, PM Mustafa ensured Nuland that Kosovo agrees to take to take all its obligations for the establishment of the Special Court.

Also, the Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli received the U.S Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland. Commenting the establishment of the Special Court, Assembly Speaker said that Kosovo will overcome this challenge with state responsibilities, in partnership with the U.S and the EU.

TV21 and RTK2 reported that Victoria Nuland meet also with Srpska List and AAK representatives.

Moreover, in an exclusive interview for RTK1, Victoria Nuland stated that the UN will establish the Special Court in case Kosovo fails to do so and then the relations of Kosovo with the international community might be questioned.  She stressed the importance of establishing the Special Court and expressed her hope that another voting will take place before the summer holidays.

Powerful individuals influence Courts

The Office of Disciplinary Prosecutor (ODP) started an investigation process for all cases that judges and prosecutors have against high-ranking individuals. This investigation is as a result of indications that these cases are intentionally neglected.

Powerful and influential individuals in Kosovo are influencing the cases that courts have against them, KTV reports.

Usually, these cases against high-ranking individuals last for years and are intentionally neglected.

For this reason, the Office of Disciplinary Prosecutor (ODP) has started an investigation of the cases that judges and prosecutors are handling, in order to understand what is happening with these cases.

Chairperson of the Office of Disciplinary Prosecutor, Zef Prendrecaj, said that all identified cases will be addressed to the relative mechanisms.

Kosovo Judicial Institute (IKD) has identified a large number of cases, for which the ODP has initiated investigations.

ODP is also investigating prosecutors and judges for taking actions while in conflict of interests and also for negligence in exercising the judicial or prosecutorial functions.

Poison found in the bags of the terror suspects in alleged water plot

Kosovo Police has found poison in the bags of the five terror suspects, arrested on Saturday near Badovc Lake. The poison was found in the bag of Enis Latifi from Vushtrri/Vucitrn, who was arrested along with four other suspects on Saturday.

While speaking in front of the media, Latifi’s lawyer, Sabrije Jashari, disclosed some details from the arrest of her client, Enis Latifi.

She said that besides the ISIS flags, masques and gloves, a certain poison was found in the bag near to her client. However, she could not reveal any additional details about this substance.

However, in its later news edition, KTV reported that the lawyer Sabrije Jashari said that the media have misinterpreted her and rebutted the statement that poison had been found in the bag of her client.

On Sunday evening hours, under harsh police measures, the suspects have been brought to the Basic Court in Prishtinë/Pristina. The Court proceedings lasted until the late hours of Sunday night, whereas a decision is expected to be taken on Monday.
