At the time it was signed, the Brussels agreement was really a kind of turning point and the first historic step towards reconciliation between Belgrade and Pristina – and from the wider perspective Serbian and Albanian people. But its economic consequences caused fears that it will affect position of Serbs in Kosovo, and consequently initiate emigration of Serbs, due to the economic and security reason, said Nenad Rasic, President of the Progressive Democratic Party and MP in the Kosovo Parliament.
Rasic said that he repeatedly pointed out that the Brussels Agreement will delete from the payrolls thousands of Serbs, who worked in the Serbian institutions. “The requirements of the Brussels Agreement lead to the abolishing of the Ministry of Interior, Civil Protection and others, as they say, “parallel” Serbian institutions. We have not made a plan to absorb the negative economic impact of this Agreement, which may in the long run lead to the exodus of Serbs from Kosovo.”
He points out that also there is a tendency to abolish Serbian health care in Kosovo. “In Health Centers in Kosovo, there is nothing more except a doctor specialists, without basic resources to cure people. All patients, except those with minor health problems, are treated in private hospitals. Nobody knows what’s going on, and nobody inform us. Serbs in Kosovo have to influence politicians who negotiate in Brussels, to inform people what is signed,” stressed Nenad Rasic.
