The destiny of the direct application of Pristina for UNESCO membership to the Director-General of UNESCO, after failed attempt through UNMIK and UN, is uncertain for the time being. The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, who already, learned the paper unofficially, carried out consultations with the UN and Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, will take decision on the matter.
According to unofficial information, the request has not been forwarded yet to the UNESCO Executive Council, which has scheduled session for 3 October. Diplomatic sources in Paris speculate that beside different procedural combinations in UNESCO bodies, a proposal is also at the table that Pristina gives up UNESCO membership request and that this topic is opened in the frame of the Brussels dialogue.
