Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has met in Washington with US Secretary of State John Kerry, who commended Serbia’s tremendous efforts in addressing the migrant crisis.

Ahead of the meeting with Vucic, Kerry also applauded the transition that has been taking place under the 2013 agreement with Europe with respect to Serbia and Kosovo.

There’s work yet to be done, as the prime minister knows, but I think he and others are taking this challenge head on and it’s very important, Kerry said, reads a statement issued by the Department of State.

We also intend to talk about developing the economic and energy relationships. These are critical components of any independent country in that region, and we recognize there are always pressures from various neighbours, but nevertheless, we are welcoming this strong desire that the prime minister has and his country has to strengthen the relationship with Europe, with the United States, in a balanced and thoughtful way, Kerry said.

Prime Minister Vucic said that he expects the support of the United States to the future path of Serbia and expressed his gratitude to Kerry for the words of praise for the difficult work on solving the problems of migrants.

I think that we delivered a lot and acted in accordance with European values, not only in accordance with European regulations, Vucic said.

We would like to see Serbia as a small but reliable partner of U.S. in the future, the prime minister said.
