Serbia is building sincere and friendly relations with the United States, Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said at the close of his visit to the U.S.

In a statement to RTS on Thursday evening, Vucic said that he had received commendations for Serbia in all meetings, and that apart from the issue of Kosovo, and noted that the differences of opinion between Belgrade and Washington were getting smaller.

Asked whether Serbia, despite certain differences, had a sincere friend in the U.S., Vucic said Serbia was building sincere and friendly relations with the United States.

“We are doing our best and trying to build the best possible relations, and what I see on the other side is good will and respect,” the Serbian prime minister said.

“It is better for us that we have as little problems as possible, the smallest possible number of differences (with the U.S.), and I think it is also important for them to show respect and build relations of different kind,” he said.

It is very important for small countries such as Serbia to enjoy a better status and greater respect from the U.S., Vucic said.

On Thursday, at the end of his three-day visit to Washington, the Serbian prime minister met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews who said in the meeting that improvement in the economic cooperation would contribute to better relations between the two countries.

Andrews has said that a visit to Belgrade is being planned so as to determine additional goods, as part of the 500 products from the preferential system, that Serbia could export to the States, which is good news for us, Vucic said.
