Ahead of Monday’s session of the Assembly of Kosovo for ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, signed last Tuesday between Kosovo and the European Union, Speaker Kadri Veseli called on opposition MPs to take part in this session.

In a public letter addressed to Speaker Veseli, the former Assembly Speaker Jakup Krasniqi said that Veseli’s advisors, or MPs individually, do not have the right to interpret the work regulation of Kosovo Assembly. According to him, Speaker’s authority and responsibility in complex situations cannot be transferred to the advisors.

According to him, Serbia has realized that it cannot impact on Kosovo’s integration process.

On the other hand, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dacic, is still hoping that Kosovo will not be granted membership to UNESCO, KTV reported.

Confronted with violent situations in the Assembly sessions and different protests, journalists that report from these events consider that throwing of teargas and other things are a threat to their lives.

The latest events at the Assembly and in protests followed by violence and teargas have pushed journalists to seek safety for them, as, during their reporting there were also cases when journalists fainted. Chairperson of the Association of Kosovo Journalists (AKJ), Zekirja Shabani, says that situation is worrying.

Shabani underlines that journalists must be more adequately equipped for better safety during their reporting from events where violence is manifested. He also emphasised that Kosovo Police is obliged to provide security to journalists for reporting in normal conditions.

Dardan Hoti, a journalist of the independent news agency KosovaPresss, also expressed the need for institutional protection of journalists in risky situations, as it happens in the regional and European countries.

Regarding journalists’ safety while reporting from the field, Kosovo Police says that this institution has continuously asked journalists to wear identifications signs, in order for it to be able to provide protection and safety to them. Police says that this institution is not obliged to provide bulletproof vests or distinctive “Press” signs to journalists.
