Kosovo PM seeks support of Lithuania for visa liberalization (media)

Prime Minister of Republic of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, during his official visit to Lithuania, was hosted in a meeting today by the Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius. During the meeting between the two prime ministers, they discussed the strengthening of cooperation and relations between the two countries, as well as Lithuania’s support for Kosovo’s European integration processes. After the meeting, in a joint press conference, Prime Minister isa Mustafa thanked his counterpart Algirdas Butkevicius for the reception and support that Lithuania provided for Kosovo. Referring to the achievements of Lithuania in democratic and economic development, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa said that Kosovo has had a constant support from Lithuania, including the engagement within the EU, also the presence of KFOR and EULEX missions which worked for peace, security and stability of Kosovo. “I also thank you for the support that you have given to for candidature and our membership in UNESCO, because we are interested to be part of world culture, science and education, not to remain an isolated country. I pointed out today, our need to have the support of Lithuania for visa liberalization, because we are the only country in the Western Balkans that have left with a visa regime and restriction of movement, which mainly affects the education of young people, but also the businesses. We are interested to deepen economic cooperation with you and find common interests that bind us later in joint work and development,” said Prime Minister Isa Mustafa. Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, said this is the first visit of a Kosovo Prime Minister in Lithuania, so I appreciate this meeting as important and historic, that will help to deepen cooperation between the two countries. “We should aim to have better cooperation and economic trade. We invite businesses from both countries to seize the opportunities and chances that come from the geographical position of the two countries,” said Prime Minister Butkevicius. Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius also stressed his support for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, in order to achieve sustainable neighbourhood in the region and the importance of promoting ethnic and religious tolerance. “We support the on-going reforms in Kosovo. Signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement is an important step in relations between the European Union and Kosovo. We are ready to help the process of joining the European Union, by actively participating in EU projects in the country. We are directly affecting the security of Kosovo, having special delegate to EULEX, and KFOR as well,” said Prime Minister Butkevicius. During his stay in Lithuania, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, accompanied by ministers Arban Abrashi and Mahir Yagcilar, will have meetings with other political authorities, Speaker of the Parliament of Lithuania, Loretta Graužinienė, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius.
