Veton Surroi criticizes the coalition government parties, for the approach towards the created situation in Kosovo. He considers that the case of deputy Donika Kadaj-Bujupi and demolition of the door of Albin Kurti’s apartment are a dead–end road in spiral of violence. Response by throwing stones, confrontation with the police and destruction of public and private property by a significant number of protesters from the opposition, is another sign of this dead-end way.
The government will not convince the opposition by arresting deputies. Opposition will not convince the government by breaking government building glasses or by destroying its vehicles.
Furthermore, this spiral of violence is close to resulting with a tragedy, casualties. In one of the sequences from Monday’s protest, a young policeman frightened from the protesters who were running in his direction, took out his revolver and loaded it. Fortunately, a single second changed the situation and stopped him from using that bullet. Chances for repetition of this situation are increasing.
Kosovo has a single solution: to come out of this situation through an internal political dialogue. This could have been done in the beginning of September, without teargas, arrests and other turmoil. This can be done now, despite the damages already caused, or it will be forced to do this later, with much bigger damages.
The longer this situation continues, corruption and organized crime, assessed as endemic by the European Commision, will be accompanied by institutional paralyses and political violence.
