Kosovo Assembly Vice-President, Xhavit Haliti, in an opinion piece today argues that at a time when important laws are waiting to be adopted, when Kosovo needs to make mature decisions, the opposition MPs are trying to block the work of the Assembly. “The MPs who are elected by the people have forgotten to speak and are using teargas as the only means of communication. Nobody has the right to say that the MPs who come to the Assembly with tear gas instead of draft-laws and ideas, love Kosovo more than those who once fought and today are working to advance the state of Kosovo. In a democracy, decisions are made in institutions and violence is unacceptable. The government wants dialogue, the Assembly wants dialogue and the EU and US officials require dialogue. If Kosovo government is wrong, I don’t believe that the US and the EU are wrong when seeking dialogue. Government and opposition are united by the sacrifices for Kosovo’s future in NATO and EU, although there are certain people who would like to return to a time of war, a war without sense that hinders the road to Euro-Atlantic integration and has nothing to offer,” Haliti concludes.
