Austria has applied for Kosovo’s telephony code

Through a press release, Kosovo minister for dialogue, Edita Tahiri announced that Austria applied to the ITU for Kosovo’s telephony code

“We have received the official confirmation from the EU and Austrian Embassy in Kosovo that Austria has submitted the application for the telephony code for Kosovo,” reads the press release.

Minister Tahiri also explained that the dial code for Kosovo will be +383 and this recognises Kosovo’s sovereignty in the telecommunication area, which means that Kosovo is consolidating its state identity in the field of telecommunications.

According to the Action Plan, the ITU is expected to allocate the telephony code to Kosovo in the first part of March 2016. The new dial code will be used in the entire territory of Kosovo and by all mobile and landline telephony operators.

On the other hand, representative of Kosovo Post told TV21 that the first calls with the new telephony code are expected to be made in mid-April.

Opposition: 09 January will mark the end of the Government

Opposition insists that 09 January will mark the end of this Government. This is the message that has been conveyed by the three opposition leaders, Visar Ymeri, Ramush Haradinaj and Fatmir Limaj during a meeting with students.

AAK chairperson, Ramush Haradinaj, requested from the American friends to leave Kosovo to do its work.

“We respect our American friends, they have helped us in difficult time, but I beg them to allow Kosovars to do their duty’, Ramushaj said.

Moreover he said that it’s not disrespect to say to America and Europe that Serbia will not return to Kosovo anymore

On the other hand, Vetëvendosje chairperson, Visar Ymeri said that the New Year in Kosovo will begin on 09 January.

Meanwhile, Nisma për Kosovën, chairperson Fatmir Limaj said that for four months they have defended the Republic and, as he said, the opposition won the first phase and this was confirmed by the ruling of the Constitutional Court. Limaj said that now is the second phase, the resignation of the government.

Electronic procurement platform launched

Six institutions of Kosovo will start implementing the newly launched electronic procurement system. The six institutions will be testing the platform for a period of six months while starting from July this year all institutions will be using it.

Kosovo Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, welcomed the launch of this project, which according to him, has been prepared in compliance will all European directives. However, PM Mustafa noted that this platform will not solve all the issues in the public procurement.

PM Mustafa said that the electronic procurement will increase transparency and accountability and reduce the corruption in public procurement processes.

European Union Office in Kosovo, that frequently criticized Kosovo’s procurement, said that if this platform operates as it should, then Kosovo fulfills another EU integration criterion.

Libor Chlad of the EU Office in Kosovosaid that electronic procurement will increase transparency in procurement and will facilitate and reduce irregularities. He promised further EU’s support to this project and to the efficiency of Kosovo’s procurement.

Through electronic public procurement system the entire procurement process will be done electronically.

Kosovo’s President Atifete Jahjaga welcomed the launch of the electronic procurement platform. She said that this will ensure transparency and better supervision of public procurement process and accountability for the spending of taxpayers’ money.

US Ambassador to Kosovo, Greg Delawie commended the launch of the electronic procurement. In his twitter account, Delawie said considered the initiation of e-procurement as a good step in advancing anticorruption efforts.

Serb pilgrims to visit Gjakovë/Djakovica on Wednesday

The director of the Office for Kosovo in Serbian Government, Marko Djuric will stay in Kosovo on Wednesday and Thursday to celebrate the Orthodox Christmas.

On the occasions of Orthodox Christmas, around 65 Serb pilgrims will visit the church in Gjakovë/Djakovica on Wednesday.

Albanian residents and local authorities promise to welcome the Serb pilgrims without protests.

Gjakovë/Djakovica municipality expects from its citizens to be mature and hope that no provocations will occur from both sides.

Because of the incident of the last year, security institutions have increased the vigilance. Gjakovë/Djakovica police commander, Kristë Gjokaj, said that they have increased the number of police officers.

Gjokaj said that they did not receive any official information about a potential protest but he said that they expect a resistance from some local citizens. However, he emphasized that all the measures have been undertaken to prevent any incidents.

On the other hand, Gjakovë/Djakovica residents say that they are not against Serbs but against those who have committed crimes. Few citizens expressed ready to join a potential protests if pilgrims will make any provocations.

One year ago, Gjakovë/Citizens protested against the Serb pilgrims and for this the former Kosovo minister for return and communities, Aleksandar Jablanovic called the protestors ‘salvages’. This incited bigger protests across Kosovo and because of the pressure Jablanovic was dismissed.

Indictment against eleven suspects in ‘Apex’ case rejected

Two years were not enough for the Special Prosecution to conclude the investigations for the case known as ‘Apex’.

Prishtinë/Pristina Basic Court rejected the indictment and also terminated the criminal procedure against eleven suspects in relation to this case because the indictment has been submitted after the expiry of the legal time limit, namely 27 days later as stipulated. The defendants were accused by SPRK prosecutor for the criminal offence of organized crime, compulsion, extortion and unlawful possession of weapons and narcotics.
