Lead Prosecutor of the EU Special Investigative Task Force David Schwendiman said today that the announcement that the seat of the Special Court for war crimes in Kosovo would be in the Hague is a sign that things are moving closer to the investigation of the allegations presented in the Council of Europe report of January 2011 by Senator Dick Marty.

Schwendiman said to Beta agency that support of the process by all stakeholders and observation of the highest international judicial standards are of utmost importance when it comes to investigation of crimes, as has been the case so far.

Schwendiman further said that procedure for the creation of the Specialists Chambers and Prosecutor’s Office has not been finalized yet and that there is still work to be done in that regard, however they are closer to begin dealing with allegation from the CoE report from 2011. He called on all stakeholders to move forward in setting up the Specialists Chambers and Prosecutor’s Office to ensure that the two bodies become operational without further delay.

His predecessor Clint Williamson said in July 2014 that he believes that there is strong evidence for approximately ten cases related to human organ trafficking by members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and that the number of cases could even be higher than ten.
