From 25 to 29 January, lawmakers of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will present their reports and adopt resolutions on the most immediate international issues, reports the media.

International terrorism

With regard to international terrorism, reports on “Foreign fighters in Syria and Iraq” and “Combating international terrorism while protecting Council of Europe standards and values” will be the focus of discussions. These two reports are mainly related to ISIS activities as well as foreign fighters who are leaving European countries to join terrorists in Syria and Iraq. The report also suggests a global solution to the problem.

Refugee crisis in the EU

Refugee and migration crisis in Europe will be addressed with reports on “The Mediterranean Sea: a front door to irregular migration” and on “Organized crime and migrants”.

Kosovo

The situation in Kosovo will also be part of the agenda of the winter session. Spanish rapporteur and lawmaker Agustin Conde, will read a report on the situation in Kosovo and on the role of the Council of Europe.

According to Conde, democracy in Kosovo is facing a number of delays and obstacles in terms of legislative work, and “an endemic and widespread corruption which negatively impacts the lives of people in Kosovo and holds back Kosovo’s economic development.”

Lawmakers traveled to Pristina in October 2015 for a two-day fact-finding visit to prepare the report.
