At the latest round of talks between Belgrade and Pristina, the Serbian delegation proposed establishing an airline between the two cities. The Serbian delegation’s idea is for the planes to enter the air space over FYR Macedonia, making the airline international and talks about delineation of the air space between Serbia proper and Kosovo, favored by Pristina, would be avoided.
“Formulations and the status of the planes upon their landing are being discussed. Talks are ongoing about who would be in charge and at what level, with all these issues being status related,” said analyst Dusan Janjic, adding that reaching any form of compromise would be good.
However, Kosovo officials warned that there won’t be any compromise. Pristina officials say that setting up the airline and control of the air space over Kosovo are two different issues, and reminded that control of the air space can’t be discussed with Belgrade, but only with NATO. Deputy Kosovo Foreign Minister Petrit Selimi underlined that it is very important that modalities of the cheapest and easiest flights between Pristina and Belgrade be discussed in the future, and added that flying through FYR Macedonia is definitely not an option.
This topic will most probably be on the negotiation table in Brussels after the Serbian elections.
