Tear gas halts Kosovo Parliament debate on new president (AP)

A parliamentary debate on the election of a new Kosovo president was disrupted Friday when two tear gas canisters were opened on the opposition benches, prompting lawmakers to leave the chamber.

Lawmakers were debating on whether to anoint Hashim Thaci, foreign minister and a former guerrilla leader, as the country’s next president.
