The recently established Inter-Ministerial Commission for Communities that will work on implementation of regulations related to the protection of communities and amendments of laws that insufficiently or inadequately protect rights of communities, held its first meeting yesterday.

The main community issues that this Commission will deal with are better representation in institutions, protection of property rights, language use rights, improvement of working conditions and security.

In addition to the Chairperson of the Commission and Deputy Kosovo Prime Minister, Branimir Stojanovic, the meeting was attended by the Minister for Local Government Administration, Ljubomir Maric, Minister for Communities and Return, Dalibor Jevtric, Minister without portfolio Rasim Demiri, Minister for Public Administration, Mahir Jagcilar and Director of the Prime Minister’s Office for Communities, Ivan Tomic.

Participants believe that the Commission will also ensure better institutional coordination with regards to implementation of decisions and that it will succeed in creating better conditions for non-majority communities. Besides permanent members of the Commission, other institutions and international organizations will be invited to participate, depending on the issues that willl be addressed. Next meeting will take place in two weeks, when some concrete decisions referring to communities are expected.
