A group of people from Rudare village, close to Zvecan, is heading by vehicle to Jarinje, at the border crossing between Kosovo and Serbia, to protest against the announced decision of the government of Kosovo that from 18 April, individuals who possess illegal ID documents, issued by the illegal structures of Serbia in Kosovo, will not be allowed to enter Kosovo.
Mayors of the northern municipalities as well as mayors of the so-called municipalities that function as part of Serbia, also joined these protesters.
Serbs in the north consider that this decision will put their freedom of movement at risk, being that as they put it, the majority of them do not possess other documents than those issued by Serbia.
It has not been confirmed if the decision of the government of Kosovo has been put into effect. Some of the people of Kosovo North crossed the border point today with Serbian IDs without any problem.
Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, announced on Friday that the European Union has been informed about the decision. She said that despite many efforts during the dialogue to interrupt use of these documents, there are still cases of individuals using them. In December of 2015 Kosovo abolished such measures, in order to create possibility for the European Union to resolve this issue.
