Kosovo expects to receive very soon the recommendation for visa liberalization as government officials in Pristina claim all criteria required by the European Union have already been met. Fisnik Rexhepi, senior advisor to Kosovo’s Minister for European Integration Bekim Collaku, told the news portal that Kosovo too is in the EU’s agenda for visa liberalization. “We have met the criteria required by EU institutions through an unprecedented rigorous roadmap. EU institutions are reviewing the Kosovo case. We expect to receive news very soon and we believe that this prolonged process will conclude soon,” he said. Asked to comment on the annulment of the visit by Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos to Pristina on the issue of visa liberalization, Rexhepi said: “Mr. Avramopoulos publicly said he would visit Kosovo to confirm the conclusion of the process, but the fact that he has not visited Kosovo yet should not be seen as an obstacle. The European Commission, through its assessment mission, has done the monitoring and confirmed that all requirements have been met. We now expect no delay or hesitation for the European Commission to present to the EU Parliament and Council the legal initiative for amending Regulation 539/2001 that puts Kosovo on the white Schengen list”.
