On the 66th anniversary of the European Union, Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa said he pledges to secure Kosovo’s membership of the European Union and NATO. In a Facebook post, Mustafa said Kosovo needs to prove it has the will and power to put the law above anyone else. “We need to prove our determination in combating and uprooting corruption and organized crime and to implement standards of democracy,” he said. Mustafa said the coalition government he leads is willing to take the lead in this path. He said that Kosovo’s European integration is the agenda that unites all political parties, different ethnic communities and the society in general. Mustafa said his government has a clear development agenda that aims cooperation with neighbors, the implementation of international obligations and reforms that will help bring Kosovo closer to the European Union. “Kosovo is producing stability in the region and it has good relations with neighboring countries,” he said. Mustafa highlighted dialogue with Serbia as a process of normalizing neighborly relations. “It is clear to us that the European Union does not accept countries that have problems with neighboring countries. Therefore, in order to move forward, Kosovo and Serbia have chosen the path of dialogue and cooperation. Agreements with Serbia and good neighborly relations, as a requirement for EU integration, is supported by the majority of Kosovo’s citizens and more than 2/3 of the Assembly which established the framework of this dialogue in 2013”. Mustafa said dialogue with Serbia helped the integration of the Serb community in the northern part of the country “and now we are working together to focus our political agenda in the economy and Euro-Atlantic integration”. “I am confident that Kosovo’s readiness and commitment to follow European values will help the five non-recognizing countries to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign country,” he added.
