Kosovo becomes FIFA member (media)
All media report that Kosovo has become new member of the world football’s governing body, FIFA. Kosovo was accepted as the 210th member after 141 delegates at FIFA’s congress in Mexico City approved on Friday membership, while 23 voted against. The vote means that Kosovo can participate in the 2018 World Cup qualifying groups that starts in September. Kosovo became a member of the football’s governing body, UEFA, earlier this month.
AAK and NISMA call for a peaceful protest (media)
All media report on the protest organized by the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), expected to take place today in Pristina. Dailies report on a press conference of the leaders of these two parties, Ramush Haradinaj and Fatmir Limaj, where they announced that this Saturday’s protest will be the most massive one, however they assured that the protest will be peaceful. “I appeal to the activists, supporters, and citizens, no matter party affiliation, to join us. Opposition rejection is alive, we will make the government reflect and we will prove tomorrow that this opposition will reach its strength,” Ramush Haradinaj said.
Serwer: Serbia should only allow Kosovo to become a UN member (Koha)
The United States expert on Balkans and professor at John Hopkins University, Daniel Serwer, said that normalization of the relations between Serbia and Kosovo means entry of Kosovo into the United Nations and establishment of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Pristina. “This is the required minimum and I am convinced that the Serbian leadership understands this,” Serwer said at the “Newsweek Talks” conference. “Serbia does not need to recognize Kosovo, but only to allow Kosovo to become a UN member,” he said adding that this will happen one day.
Azem Syla remains in detention (Zeri)
The Court of Appeals has decided for Aem Syla and the others arrested of this group to remain on detention. The Court of Appeals has rejected the appeals as ungrounded and approved the ruling of the Basic Court in Pristina, informed the Court through a press release.
To Montenegro, demarcation is a done deal (Zeri)
Official Podgorica continues to believe that demarcation of the border with Kosovo is completed. “It is the same border line that existed during the former Yugoslavia. At that time they represented administrative borders, while now they are state borders,” stressed the officials of the Montenegrin Ministry of Interior. “It is absolutely not true that Montenegro has taken Kosovo lands. After three years of discussions, and sixteen meetings, the commission for the border between the two states has given the approval for each millimeter between the two states and the signature guaranteed that everything is in accordance with the regulation,” said Milan Paunovic, head of the management for integration of the border and border points.
