On Monday, Kosovo Assembly Women Caucus in cooperation with the OSCE, held a meeting with municipal women councillors of Ferizaj/Urosevac, Kaçanik/Kacanik and Hani i Elezit/Elez Han, online edition of Klan Kosova reported.

The meeting was held in the framework of Women Caucus efforts to facilitate budget allocations for shelters and provision of assistance for rehabilitation of the victims of domestic violence.

Head of the Women Caucus, Blerta Deliu-Kodra, said these meetings aim to ensure sustainable support for victims of gender-based violence, by contributing to prevention of violence against women, their protection and rehabilitation.

This meeting was chaired by MP Mexhide Mjaku-Topalli, who stressed that violence should be considered as a violation of human rights and as a crime.

Addressing the participants, OSCE representative James Lyon said that OSCE shall strongly support improvement of women position in Kosovo.

VV ends boycott, AAK and Nisma want elections

(All monitored broadcasters, KTV)

Vetëvendosje ended its boycott to the Assembly. As of Tuesday, MPs of this Movement will return to work in Committees and plenary session, KTV reported.

This was officially announced by Vetëvendosje leader Visar Ymeri and caucus leader Glauk Konjufca.

They said that return to the Assembly is being done to oppose the two agreements, which, according to them, are harmful for Kosovo.

According to them, the effect of opposition’s absence was evidenced to be negative and it does not present any obstacle to the Government.

However, AAK and Nisma do not plan to return to Assembly’s work. To this pre-election coalition of the opposition, situation is way more serious, therefore elections are the only way for solution of the crisis.

Leaders of these two parties, Ramush Haradinaj and Fatmir Limaj, expressed their concern that parties in power, according to them, are trying to smuggle the Association and demarcation.

AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj said that Government’s persistence to smuggle the two agreements will only deteriorate the situation in the country further. To the opposition leaders, announcement of elections date would speed up the visa liberalisation process.

House collapse in Prizren Historic Centre kills a child

A four-year old girl died in Prizren town after a house collapsed. Rainfalls are believed to have been the reason behind the collapse of this house located at the Prizren Historic Centre. Except the fatal injuries for the victim cause by the building’s collapse, other members of victim’s family were also injured.

For a while, civil society is seeking urgent intervention in the Prizren Historic Zone due to the serious situation of many old buildings located in this area.

In a statement given last month, the director of NGO ‘Ec ma ndryshe’ in Prizren, Hajrulla Çeku, said that work of his organisation was qualified by the Municipal Director of Inspectorate Bedri Bytyqi as malicious propaganda against Prizren.

Nevertheless, after publication of the UNDP platform on measurement of people’s perceptions for municipal services, which demonstrates decrease by 40% of citizens’ satisfaction level, Çeku asked this Director: “Is this propaganda with a malicious aforethought of internationals against the Prizren town?”

The Task Force for Prizren Historic Centre convened a week ago, where the Minister of Culture Kujtim Shala and Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Ferid Agani met with Prizren mayor Ramadan Muja and other officials to discuss this Centre. Both ministers assured that the plan for management of this Centre is being prepared.

House of Istog/Istok Serb returnee burglarised

(RTK2)

The house of Zdravko Nikolic, the only Serb family in village Kovrag of Istog/Istok municipality, was burglarized on Monday morning.  His Albanian neighbour reported the incident to Kosovo Police.

“Ministry for Communities and Return considers that as long as these attacks happen in the areas of returnees, the return process will be unsuccessful,” reads the condemnation of this Ministry.

RTK2 also reported that six households in village Suhodoll of Lipjan/Lipjane municipality were robbed on the early hours of Monday.

Lawyers not interested to be part of the Prosecutorial Council

(Klan Kosova)

The new law on Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) has entered into force since six months; however, this institution cannot complete its composition defined by law.

Aside from members from the prosecutions, KPC must also have a lawyer-member in its composition, who should be selected by the Assembly of Kosovo. But the law stipulates that the member should not exercise the lawyer’s profession for a period of five years, and to be paid from the Kosovo Chamber of Advocates (KCA). Because of this, no lawyer expressed interest in the vacancies called by the Assembly for this position.

KCA Head Osman Havolli said that there is no interest for these positions as, according to him, they are in an unequal position with others. He called upon Kosovo Assembly to amend this law at the earliest time possible.

On the other hand, MP Armend Zemaj said that he is not convinced by the justifications of the KCA; however, he announced that they are planning to revise the law by taking into consideration experiences from other countries.

Replying to Klan Kosova, KPC emphasized the importance of filling the vacancies with non-prosecutor members. However, according to KPC, this matter currently is not a problem for the functionality of the Council, as they have the necessary quorum to make decisions.

Except the KCA member, KPC has no members from civil society and university.
