Serbia has the right to veto the admission of Kosovo to the UN! (Blic)

“Approval of Serbia for the admission of the self-proclaimed Kosovo in the UN is important, because Serbia is the country of origin, and as such has the right to veto any violent seizure and usurpation of part of its territory,” said a former Serbian diplomat Vladislav Jovanović. “Even if, hypothetically, Russia and China as permanent members of the UN Security Council agree that Kosovo become a member of the UN, the Council will have to propose it to the General Assembly. However, the General Assembly will again seek the consent of its member, because it is not authorized to divide the territory of one member, or to tear it apart,” said Jovanovic.  According to him that is the reason why the West doesn’t want to choose the “harder way”, but holds Serbia on a short stick.

“The Republic of Serbia practically doesn’t have sovereignty over Kosovo and Metohija, but Serbia saved the legal sovereignty. As long as Serbia is keeping that deed in the possession, they cannot transfer non-legal situation into the legal situation”, stressed Jovanović.
