Key Kosovo political parties are meeting far from media

(Klan Kosova)

Party leaders might not be present as they were on Friday, 5 August, but there will be another meeting between the five key political parties in Kosovo. Dialogue which is being held for a while far from media glare under the organisation of Democracy for Development and the Balkans Policy Research Group, with the support of two foreign embassies, has already started to get its shape.

Now there is a roadmap as draft proposal that Klan Kosova got hold off where the political entities agree to continue dialogue on three topics in parallel. Under A, there are topics that require consensus, such as a swift revision of the Agreement on Demarcation with Montenegro, development of a new roadmap on talks with Serbia, as well as transformation of Kosovo Security Force (KSF).

According to the political analyst Ramush Tahiri, parties will hardly find the required consensus in all these topics, which were also confirmed by the meeting organisers.

Dialogue on elections has been listed under point B of the draft proposal, while legislative reforms under point C.

Following these meetings, representatives of political parties said that they have brought their positions closer on different issues, but there are also topics such as demarcation where the ruling and opposition parties are very much divided.

Local politicians said that internationals, which are always part of the cross-party dialogue, currently have no advice for Kosovars.

Maxhuni: Attack against the Assembly building with terroristic elements

(All monitored broadcasters, KTV)

The attack against the Kosovo Assembly building was an act with terroristic elements. This is how the Kosovo Police Director General, Shpend Maxhuni, qualified the incident against the Assembly building which took place five days ago, KTV reported.

Several persons have already been interrogated by the police in relation to this incident.

While he qualified the attack against the Assembly a terrorist act, the Police Director did not hesitate to brag that the institution he leads also managed to prevent terrorist incidents.

However, to one of the members of the Kosovo Assembly Internal Affairs, Security, and KSF Oversight Committee, LDK MP Anton Quni, the weapon with which the Assembly was attacked demonstrates that there are groups which are more organised and prepared than the Police or Kosovo Security Force.

Nisma për Kosovën member Zafir Berisha considers that safety in Kosovo is at level zero and that the institutions, according to him, are not presenting the real situation.

Committee members from AAK and Nisma për Kosovën, who have been boycotting these meetings for a while now, took part in this meeting of the Committee on Monday.

Demarcation in Assembly on Tuesday

(Most monitored broadcasters, TV21)

Foreign Affairs Assembly Committee will discuss the draft-law on the Agreement on Border Demarcation between Kosovo and Montenegro on Tuesday morning. In the afternoon hours of Tuesday, the Assembly Presidency is expected to set the session for ratification of this Agreement.

Last week, the Government of Kosovo submitted the Agreement on Demarcation to the Assembly, while the material for this Agreement has already been distributed to MPs.

Çaushi: International representatives should not interfere in demarcation issue

(TV21)

Deputy Chairperson of Vetëvendosje Movement, Driton Çaushi, says that speech of the United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Greg Delawie, had no room in the scientific debate on demarcation between Kosovo and Montenegro which was held last week.

MP Çaushi further said that only experts can professionally conclude the demarcation process, and not politicians. According to him, international representatives should not interfere in the issue of demarcation with Montenegro.

Protesters call for punishment of ‘Pronto’ affair protagonists

(TV21)

Hundreds of persons joined the protesting march against crime and corruption held on Monday evening after publication of wiretaps in the affair known as “Pronto II,” online version of TV21 reported.

The crowd started their march from ‘Zahir Pajaziti’ square in Prishtinë/Pristina, to continue with it toward the Government building. Protesters called for punishment of protagonists in these wiretaps, namely the PDK caucus leader Adem Grabovci, as well as other officials of this political party.

Protesters, who constantly whistled, requested jobs while they read a statement in front of the Government building.

This is the second protest in the row organised by a group of citizens, who have been driven by publication of wiretaps. TV21 also reported that next protest regarding the same issue will be held on Wednesday.

UN Security Council to debate on Kosovo on 25 August

(Most monitored broadcasters, RTK1)

The United Nations Security Council on 25 August will discuss the quarterly report on Kosovo. In his report, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed his concern over stagnation of the integration process, but also the crisis in Kosovo’s institutions, as a result of the demarcation process with Montenegro.

Ban called on leaders of Belgrade and Prishtinë/Pristina to continue dialogue on normalising relations, but also to demonstrate willingness to compromise in order to reach the conclusion of this process for the benefit of the citizens.
