Veseli: Demarcation issue to be completed on 1 September (Koha/RTK)
Kosovo Assembly President, Kadri Veseli, said on Friday he expects the issue of border-demarcation with Montenegro to be completed on 1 September. “I expect the demarcation issue to be closed on 1 September. Kosovo will not lose any centimeter of land,” Veseli said. He further said that the non-ratification of the demarcation deal would harm Kosovo and its path towards European integration. Speaking about the demarcation debate that took place on 3 August, Veseli said he is not inclined to believe former-Yugoslav maps and Yugoslav mentality, but that he will trust the United States, European friends and experts of the government commission. “The demarcation between Kosovo and Montenegro will pass. We need to know only one fact that Kosovo will benefit a lot when it ratifies this agreement. If the Assembly fails to ratify the demarcation deal, the future is unknown. We should make historic decision on 1 September and open Kosovo’s prospects for economic reform and development,” he added.
Osmani: Demarcation deal will not pass on 1 September (Indeksonline)
The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP, Vjosa Osmani, told the news site she will not support the border-demarcation agreement with Montenegro on 1 September. She said there are also some other LDK MPs who declared they would not support the current agreement. Osmani expressed optimism that the demarcation deal will not be ratified in the Kosovo Assembly on 1 September. “If you take into consideration the true will of the MPs, the demarcation deal will not pass,” she said.
Eight ruling-coalition MPs against demarcation (Zeri)
The paper reports today that there are currently eight MPs from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) who declared their vote will be against the border-demarcation agreement with Montenegro. According to the paper, also several senior officials of the PDK have expressed their doubt regarding this agreement. LDK deputy leader, Haki Rugova, told the paper that the LDK Presidency during a meeting with heads of LDK branches has given the full support to the demarcation agreement. Despite this, according to Rugova, there are still several LDK members who have dilemmas or are against the agreement.
