Members of the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) and Association of Journalists of Kosovo and Metohija (UNKiM) re-inaugurated, for the fifth time, a memorial plaque to two missing journalists, Đuro Slavuj and Ranko Perenić.

The secretary-general of UNS, Nino Brajović, said that it is not about a perfect murder or kidnapping, instead it is about perfect lack of interest of those whose job is to shed light on the murder of journalists. “From this reason, and from this place, we request a commission to be established, whose task would be to shed light on the circumstances of the murder and missing of journalists in Kosovo and Metohija,” said Brajović, and added that commission should by comprised, beside members of the international community and Kosovo Police, by members of the UNKiM and members of the professional association of journalists of Kosovo.

The circumstances related to the disappearance of journalists are unknown even 18 years after they went missing. On 21 August 1998 the journalists went missing after the ended up in the area under control of the Kosovo Liberation Army after taking a wrong road direction during their field trip to Monastery Zočište where they were supposed to prepare a story about the return of the missing monks from the Monastery.

A memorial plaque between the village Velika Hoča and town Orahovac has been destroyed four times in last four years by unknown perpetrators, following its inauguration at a place, from which it is believed, the two journalists disappeared 18 years ago.
