British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, in an address to the Kosovo Assembly MPs said that Kosovo has made significant progress since 1999 but that it needs to continue improving and working for the benefit of its people. He said the people of Kosovo have the right to seek accountability from their elected representatives and added that appointment of people to different posts based on merit is essential for the development of a country. Johnson said his country supports opening of new jobs and economic development of Kosovo which, he noted, “has immense potential for developing tourism.” “We can do many things together,” the British Foreign Secretary said. Speaking about normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, Johnson said he was aware that the process could be painful because of the past but that improving relations is in the benefit of both parties. He also stressed the importance of cooperating with the special court despite of how difficult this could be. The British diplomat also extended his sympathies to the family of Vetevendosje activist Astrit Dehari, who died under yet unclear circumstances in his cell at the Prizren detention facility. Johnson called for an independent and transparent investigation into his death.
