Most local news websites covered an interview that Mitrovica North Mayor Goran Rakic gave to Belgrade-based Politika daily newspaper, highlighting his quote that the wall in Mitrovica North will not be demolished. Rakic said the base of the wall will be redesigned with stairs that will be connected to a roundabout that is being built in the north. “Everything will be done in accordance with the project that was defined last year and verified this year,” he noted. Rakic said that a final agreement to redesign the wall was reached in Pristina and that Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, has agreed to this. The meeting in Pristina lasted several hours. Everything was clearly defined and all three parties agreed that the wall should be shortened by 90 centimetres and for stairs to be built that will connect it to the promenade area,” he said. According to Rakic, EU officials and Kosovo’s authorities have stopped the decision to demolish the wall and made another decision to redesign the base. “Pristina however is obstructing the whole agreement so that it can accuse the Serbian side for failing to respect the agreement and for postponing deadlines,” he added. Asked if the Mitrovica North residents are afraid from “the violent entrance of Albanian extremists from the south” Rakic said one needs to be careful. “If there will be unpredictable situations, we expect KFOR, EULEX and the Kosovo Police to act in accordance with their mandate,” he added. Asked if the village of Suhodoll belongs to the southern or northern part of Mitrovica, Rakic said: “the issue of the village is not closed yet. The final answer will be given by the negotiating teams at one of the tripartite meetings in Brussels”.
