Kadri Veseli, President of the Kosovo Assembly and leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said that this month he will organise a round-table with political leaders to discuss major unresolved issues such as the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and the border demarcation with Montenegro. Representatives of opposition parties however are saying that they will not attend the roundtable if the ruling parties will only try to “recycle” these issues. Ahmet Isufi, deputy leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), said the ruling coalition should not waste any time in trying to convince the opposition to vote in favor of the current version of the border demarcation with Montenegro, because they are confident that Kosovo loses territory as a result of the agreement. “We will not attend [the round-table] as long as the current version of the demarcation is being discussed. The same goes for the Association, which has been ruled out by the Constitution. In our opinion, these two agreements have been rejected. One issue has been rejected by the Constitution and the other by experts and the people of Kosovo. This is why such topics should not be brought before the public again,” Isufi told the news website. Asked if the round-table could result in an agreement for early parliamentary elections, Isufi said elections should have been held in 2016 when the dissatisfaction of the people had reached its peak as a result of damages inflicted by the government. “We are entering 2017 and we will have an agenda of our engagements as a political party. We believe that the President of the Assembly and the Prime Minister should withdraw the Association and the demarcation and act based on the Constitution and Kosovo’s state interests and not try to recycle the same topics,” he said.
