The courts in Kosovo have refused lawsuits of Serbs from Srbica/Skenderaj, for damages caused to their property in 1999, according to media reports in Albanian.

146 displaced Serbs, who until 1999 lived in the municipality of Srbica/Skenderaj, have sued the municipality, UNMIK and KFOR for damage caused to their property during 1999.

They asked for 500 million euros for compensation. The monastery Devič also claimed more than a million euro in compensation for property damage during the pogrom in March 2004.

After the Office of the Basic Court in Srbica/Skenderaj rejected a claim for compensation of damages, complaints were addressed to the second instance court, the Court of Appeal, branch in Mitrovica.

A representative of the Office of the Mitrovica Basic Court in Srbica/Skenderaj Hajrullah Aruçi confirmed that the court on two levels considered the request of the Serbs but it rejected the lawsuit and complaints.
