German Foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, said during his visit to Pristina today that members of the Kosovo Assembly should ratify the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro and pave the way for visa-free travel for the citizens of Kosovo. Gabriel said Kosovo has made huge steps forward in implementing reforms and combating crime and corruption. “The only remaining criteria for visa liberalization is the ratification of the border demarcation deal,” Gabriel said. He added that Germany will keep its promise that the EU has open doors for Western Balkans and Kosovo as part of this region. “We are aware that it is no easy task to meet the numerous standards but we will help you in this path,” he said. Gabriel also said that it was very important to resume the process of talks between Kosovo and Serbia. Gabriel also said Kosovo is entitled to have its army but in harmony with others. “The message of the Prime Minister was clear: the army will be formed in agreement with all, including the Serbian List. This means that Kosovo to have a sovereign army just like other countries, but in harmony with the others. Neighboring countries and the EU need to help in this respect,” Gabriel was quoted as saying.
