A delegation of Serbia’s National Assembly on Thursday left a session of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly, held in Strasbourg, France, in protest.
The move was prompted by the decision of a French court earlier in the day to reject Serbia’s request to extradite Ramush Haradinaj.
According to a statement, the Serbian delegation “condemned the disgraceful decision of the French court.”
Earlier in the day in Belgrade, Prime Minister and President-elect Aleksandar Vucic announced that Serbia’s ambassador to France would be summoned back to the country for consultations, and that Belgrade would send a protest note worded in the strongest terms to Paris.
Haradinaj, a Kosovo Albanian politician and a former leader of the KLA (“Kosovo Liberation Army”), is wanted in Serbia on charges related to war crimes committed in Kosovo in 1998 and 1999.
