RTK 2 reported on a protest by the citizens in the village of Vranište, Dragash/Dragaš municipality over reconstruction of a hydro power-plant. As Šukrija Aslani, stated to RTK 2, contractor commenced the work, although court decision is still pending.

“Hydro power-plant should be placed at 49 land parcels, privately owned. The contractor wants to go through these parcels, and we have no insight into it, where and how it will be done, and we do not have documentation about it,” Aslani said.

He further added, inhabitants from the village addressed the court in Pristina in regard to the decision of the Dragash/Dragaš Municipal Assembly to expropriate the land.

Aslani also said that the municipal assembly has no right to make decisions on the expropriation of the privately owned land for the benefit of one person only, it that is exactly what is taking place.

“Now large group of people gathered here and a big issue emerged, they sent some special (police) forces and we are just an ordinary citizens defending their properties. The solution must be found (…).”

Gorani community also protested last year over the decision to build a hydro power-plant on the Brod River.
