Braathu: First fighting of corruption then visa liberalization (RTK)

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo in cooperation with the German government, launched today the second project on strengthening capacities of Kosovo institutions in fighting serious corruption “Development of capacities of Kosovo agencies and Special Prosecution in fighting corruption of the high level.”

German Ambassador to Kosovo, Angelika Viets, said that corruption of the high level continues to be one of the major problems of Kosovo. “Fighting corruption is a difficult battle and it requires strong, unshakable political will to fight it. Investigators and prosecutors should remain independent and follow cases,” she said. According to her, Kosovo institutions should be vigilant and show that no one is above the law.

Head of the OSCE mission, Jan Braathu, said that fighting corruption is a remaining criteria that should be resolved in order for the visa liberalization to happen.

 He said corruption of high level is identified as key matter and it is a difficult one to resolve, therefore they are there to help on fighting corruption.

According to him, the key element on fighting corruption is confiscation of property reached in an illegal manner.

Kosovo Police Deputy General Director, Naim Rexha, pledged on behalf of all his colleagues that they would continue work with all those competent in order to fight the phenomenon of high level corruption.

Director of Anti-corruption Agency, Shaip Havolli, said that wealth of some high level political officials increases each day and the Gency should investigate where did that wealth come from.

He said that except focusing on the wealth, the Agency will also have fighting of corruption as their priority.
