Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, said in an interview to Klan Kosova on Thursday that many state commissions can be appointed to review the border demarcation with Montenegro, but that none of them can dispute the findings of the first commission. “I appreciate Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s commitment to find a solution and a way out from the current situation concerning demarcation. There can be many state commissions, but no one can dispute the accuracy of the current demarcation agreement. I am a signatory of the demarcation agreement, I trusted the state demarcation commission then and I still do,” Thaci said. Commenting on the special court that will address war crimes allegations in Kosovo, President Thaci said it is a historical injustice to Kosovo but a necessary evil. “We have accepted this necessary evil to safeguard our partnership with the United States, European Union and NATO. I led that process as Prime Minister of Kosovo and there was full transparency. We had the choice of establishing the court ourselves or for the matter to go to the United Nations Security Council. Faced with these two evils, I chose the path of cooperation with the U.S., NATO and EU … No institution in Kosovo has information when the special court will commence its work,” Thaci said. Thaci also said that Vatican will soon recognize the independence of Kosovo, but did not provide any specific date. “Kosovo has a tradition of cooperation with the Holy See. People in the Vatican are familiar with Kosovo’s cause. Pope Francis has embraced our cause, and the cause of Albanians in general. I can say that the Holy See will recognize our independence in the not-so-distant future,” he said. President Thaci said Russia doesn’t have an influence in Kosovo, “but we cannot say it doesn’t have influence in the Western Balkans, through different forms of pressure. The people of Kosovo are loyal to the European Union, they are the most pro-American people in the world. Moreover, I don’t want to see Russia from a hostile angle, because Russia was part of the processes in Rambouillet, Vienna, and other processes. Russia never did any wrong to Kosovo. Russia’s recognition of Kosovo would help Serbia to distance itself from the myths of the past,” he added.
