Yesterday in the Media Center in Caglavica, a debate “We are still victims of violation of elementary human rights” was held, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, which is being celebrated on December 10, reported KIM radio.

The debate was intended to show that human rights were violated in all segments, starting with the most elemental ones, said a journalist and member of the Association of Kosmet Victims Gordana Djikanovic.

“The largest number of kidnappings and murders has occured at the time of the arrival of international peacekeeping forces in Kosovo and Metohija, about 3,500 Serbs and non-Albanians,” Djikanovic said, reported KIM radio.

“When we talk about the state of human rights and the rights of individuals in Kosovo, we are talking about a period that happened long ago, that is, 1999-2000. We simply got acustomed to injustice. At the annual level, there are more than 500 reported cases of ethnically motivated incidents, and that umber does not decrease,” said Director of the Center for Peace and Tolerance (CPT) Nenad Maksimovic.

That the highest number of crimes in Kosovo happened after the arrival of the international community, claimed and the president of the Association of Kosmet Victims Natasa Scepanovic, reported KIM radio.

“In just a few days, hundreds of people, mostly civilians, disappeared in Suva Reka, Orahovac, Prizren, Gjakovica, Pec, Istok, Urosevac, Pristina, Gnjilane, Vucitrn,” Scepanovic said.

Kidnapping and killings during the Kosovo conflict are “the consequences of the wrong policies that were led by those who were supposed to advocate for peace,” said lawyer Momcilo Trajkovic.

The Association of Kosmet Victims was the organizer of the debate held yesterday.

The International Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December, since 1950, two years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed. This should remind that everyone, without exception, has the right to life, freedom and security, reported KIM radio.
