The European Parliament’s Rapporteur on Kosovo, Igor Soltes, said in an interview to the news website that Kosovo politicians did not listen to his predecessor’s continuous calls to ratify the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro so that Kosovo could get visa liberalization. Commenting on a statement by Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj who said that Kosovo could get visa liberalization in March, Soltes said that sometimes the promises of Kosovo politicians do not correspond with reality. “I wish his words are true, but days are going by quickly and I don’t see much progress,” he said. Soltes also said that “in 2016, Kosovo was on board the visa liberalization train, together with Georgia and Ukraine. Being very familiar with the internal procedures of the EU, my predecessor Ulrike Lunacek told Kosovo politicians on many occasions that going off that train would slow down the process indefinitely. This is why she insisted to ratify the demarcation with Montenegro as soon as possible. They did not listen to her advice. Kosovo is now off the train and we don’t know when Kosovo will be able to get on board again. This is a missed opportunity and Kosovo’s citizens are now paying the price”.
