Kosovo’s Minister for European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, said today at a press conference that Kosovo’s integration in the EU does not have an alternative. “We have expected more and concrete steps. However, our EU integration does not have an alternative. EU makes it clear to us that Kosovo is obliged to fulfill its obligations deriving from Stabilisation Association Agreement. Kosovo cannot compare itself with the neighboring countries which have started with reforms for quite some time now,” Hoxha said.
According to her the positive part of the Strategy is that EU has confirmed that Kosovo’s place is in EU, separate from Serbia and this is sufficient.
“To me this is recognition of Kosovo’s statehood. It is positive that EU requests from Serbia and EU to reach a binding agreement which obliges Serbia to end its blocking policy towards Kosovo,” she said.
Speaking about demarcation, Hoxha said the sooner a political consensus is found, the better. “The sooner we do this, the faster we will be able to move freely. We have to fulfill our international obligations and I believe that things will move during the next weeks, because the time is passing and 2018 should be the year of freedom of movement for our citizens,” Hoxha said.
